  • I always find there are 2 methods which work best when freeline fishing for Chub.

The first so to hook a chuck of luncheon meat, around 2cm big, with a small lump of plasticine about 2ft from the hook. Use the weight from the plasticine to cast upstream and 'roll' the meat down river. If you have open banks then walk downstream with it. Keep the bail arm off and feel the line, feeding it out when necessary. This shoud allow you to feel all the knocks and bumps, and hopefully bites from hungry Chub!

The other method is to use bread/crust on the surface to freeline for Chub. Again, hook a piece of bread or crust and flick it out as far as you can. You can use a controller float, but make sure its positioned a good 4 or more ft from the bait (like surface fishing for Carp).

Follow these methods and you'll be catching Chub freeline in no time at all!
