They are popular with fishermen as they are always feeding, which means they can be caught in almost any condition. Even though chub have large appetites they can still be difficult to catch, hence why more experienced fishermen target them.

Chub Weight and Size

Chub are a medium sized fish which are fairly close to one another in weight and size. Chub can reach a maximum weight of over 9 lb (4.1 kg) and grow up to a maximum length of 30 inches (75 centimeters). On average chub reach a weight of around 3 lb (1.4 kg) and grow to around 15 inches (38 centimeters).

Chub Feeding Habits

The one key thing about chub is their large mouths and greedy nature! Chub will feed whatever the weather and time of year. They have extremely large appetites and are infact predators, feeding on small fish as well as insect larve. Chub hide in snags such as tree roots and holes, then swim out to feed before finding cover again. Even though chub feed abundantly they are a very wary species of fish, especially the more they mature.

Chub Habitats

Chub are normally found in fast or slow moving rivers, as well as lakes and ponds. They live in all different depths of water and prefer to sit in an area of cover waiting for food. Due to their diet chub tend to be found in areas containing lots of water life, such as small fry and plant life.

Chub Likes and Dislikes

Adult chub are easily spooked, therefore they like areas with lots of cover, such as trees, roots, and holes. Chub dislike noise and disturbance of any kind, so make sure you are discrete when trying to catch them.
