Chub Fishing Locations

Chub Fishing Locations

Although chub prefer fast or slow flowing rivers, they can also be found in lakes and ponds of various sizes. Waters with lots of cover and snags, such as tree roots or holes are a good place to fish for chub.

Catching chub depends on finding the perfect location. Below we have listed several different venues for catching chub, as well as the best way to fish them.

If you know of a chub fishing venue that we should list, please let us know.

Rivers

If you're looking to catch chub your best bet is to visit a river. Pick a spot which has lots of cover, for example trees along the bank, fallen branches in the water, etc. Chub will sit and wait in areas of cover, then venture out to grab food before shortly returning to shelter.

Good baits to use when river fishing for chub are lures, spinners, live and dead baits, bread, luncheon meat, maggots, casters, and worms.

Lakes

Although lakes do not normally contain chub, some fisheries will stock them to provide a variety of different fish. Chub fishing in lakes is roughly the same as river fishing. Simply pick a spot of cover and fish it using baits such as luncheon meat, bread, maggots, casters, and worms. Spinners and lures can also work, although they tend not to be so successful on lakes.
